Joshua Cheptegei is ready for another test of endurance as he lines up for the 50th anniversary TCS Amsterdam Marathon on Sunday, marking his third career appearance over the 42.2km distance.
The Ugandan distance star, who owns the world records for both the 5000m and 10,000m, is still finding his rhythm on the roads after dominating the track for nearly a decade.
A two-time Olympic champion, winning the 5000m in Tokyo and the 10,000m in Paris 2024, Cheptegei now looks to bring that same brilliance to the marathon stage.
His journey so far has shown steady progress.
After a learning debut in Valencia in 2023 where he ran 2:08:59, Cheptegei improved by three minutes at the Tokyo Marathon this March, clocking 2:05:59 for ninth place.
Now in Amsterdam, he’s expected to take another step forward.
The flat, fast course, starting and finishing in the city’s Olympic Stadium, has produced some of the world’s quickest times, making it an ideal setting for Cheptegei to chase a personal best and continue his marathon evolution.
The TCS Amsterdam Marathon starts at 9 am local time on Sunday, October 19.
