Cyclops Defence Systems has officially launched a golf team to support the growth of the sport in Uganda, marking a fresh wave of corporate interest in a game that has long struggled with limited sponsorship.
The company has signed a six-member squad featuring amateur golfers, professionals, and juniors who will receive sponsorship to compete in local and regional tournaments.
The team includes Kasozi Phillip, Mwanja Baker, Ssekulima Ivan James, Kato, and Gavin, among others.
Speaking to NBS Sport, Hope Ampurire, Head of Communications & Sports Partnerships at Cyclops, said the initiative aligns with the company’s values and long-term commitment to community development.
“Cyclops sponsors golfers because we believe in sports that reflect precision, discipline, and integrity, the very values that define our brand,” Ampurire said.
“Golf allows us to connect with a broad and influential community while nurturing local talent and promoting sports excellence in Uganda.”
Ampurire added that consistent corporate support is key to transforming golf from a leisure activity into a competitive profession.
“Endorsements and sponsorships bring in the resources and visibility needed to grow the sport. They allow athletes to focus on performance, inspire new players, and elevate golf’s image as a pathway to excellence.”
She emphasized the need for broader collaboration between sponsors, associations, and government to strengthen Uganda’s golfing ecosystem.
“For Ugandan golfers to shine on big stages, we need consistent investment, not just in players, but in coaching, facilities, and international exposure,” she said.
According to Ampurire, Cyclops’ involvement extends beyond financial support.
“This sponsorship is part of our broader corporate social responsibility, using sport as a tool for empowerment, community engagement, and national pride. We’re here for the long term, to raise standards and inspire the next generation of golfers.”
The Cyclops golf team’s formation is expected to inject new energy into Uganda’s golf scene and encourage other companies to back emerging talent, helping bridge the gap between passion and opportunity in the sport.
