St. Lawrence University head coach Davis Nnono Ssozi has welcomed the newly introduced University Football League Act, which prevents players involved in the Masaza Cup from representing their university teams.
Speaking after the directive was confirmed, Ssozi said he understands the reasoning behind the decision and is fully behind efforts to create a more structured and fair competition.
“I support the new rule. It’s a step toward professionalism and balance in university football,” he said. “Our focus as St. Lawrence is on nurturing educated footballers, young men who can make a difference both on and off the pitch.”
Ssozi has earned a reputation for building a disciplined and competitive side at St. Lawrence, turning the team into one of the league’s top contenders. His approach has consistently emphasized combining academic pursuit with sporting ambition, a philosophy that continues to shape the university’s football identity.
Under his guidance, St. Lawrence has become a model of how universities can balance education and elite performance, and Ssozi believes the new Act will only strengthen that vision.
