Pressure is mounting on Liverpool manager Arne Slot after the club’s defeat to Manchester United marked their fourth consecutive loss, a slump not seen since 2014.
Former England striker Wayne Rooney was highly critical of Liverpool’s £125 million British-record signing, Alexander Isak.
Rooney stated the forward “hasn’t looked ready” since joining from Newcastle and doesn’t “deserve to be playing ahead of [Hugo] Ekitike,” who has scored four goals this season. Isak has managed only one goal since his move.
Rooney also raised concerns about talisman Mohamed Salah, suggesting the forward’s dip in form may be due to the immense pressure he has carried.
Despite Salah signing a new deal in April, Rooney said it “wouldn’t surprise me if in the summer he does leave the club.”
The ex-Manchester United star blamed complacency for Liverpool’s poor run. Meanwhile, he praised United manager Ruben Amorim for a “massive” and “absolutely spot on” performance at Anfield, a win that puts United just two points behind Liverpool.
Rooney concluded that Liverpool’s poor run has moved beyond a “blip” and become “something deeper.”
