West Ham United’s season hit a new low after a dismal 2-0 home loss to Brentford was played out against a backdrop of fan protests and empty seats at the London Stadium.
New manager Nuno Espirito Santo, yet to secure a win in three games, admitted the club has a serious issue. “Not good enough. Poor,” the Portuguese coach said, noting that “concern becomes anxiety, becomes silence. That anxiety passes to the players. We have a problem.” He stressed it’s up to the team to win the fans back.
The result leaves West Ham in 19th place after suffering their worst-ever start to a home league season—losing all four opening matches. Pundits were scathing, with Jamie Carragher calling the team “shocking.”
The widespread unrest is fueled by fans protesting against the ownership of Chairman David Sullivan and Vice-Chair Karren Brady, citing the unpopular move from Upton Park and unfulfilled promises.
The protests, marked by visible empty seats, are set to escalate with a larger march planned for the home match on November 8th.
Nuno now faces an immediate challenge to spark a “big improvement” ahead of their next Premier League game away at Leeds on Friday.
