Namuwongo Blazers head coach Steven Nyeko believes taking part in the Road to BAL tournament is a vital step in his team’s growth and development.
The FUBA National Basketball League finalists finished second in Group C to qualify for the Elite 16 round next month.
A dominant 132-58 win over Comoros’ Djabal Basket Iconi, combined with an opening loss to hosts Dar City, was enough to secure their place in the next stage.
“Such tournaments come with experience for both coaches and players in terms of tactics, so it’s a big boost for the team,” Nyeko said.
New additions John Murray and John Obama impressed, while forward Peter Obleng, Jimmy Enabu, and Innocent Ochera also played key roles.
“I’m excited because when we started this team, we had a vision to represent the country and compete. We’ve now qualified for the Elite 16, where we hope to perform well enough to reach the BAL Finals,” Nyeko added.
Focus now turns to the FUBA National Basketball League playoff finals, which tip off this Friday at the Lugogo Arena. The Blazers are eyeing their first-ever championship as they take on 10-time record winners City Oilers.
The finals will be broadcast live on NBS Sport and Afromobile. Defending champions JKL Lady Jaguars will face JT Lady Jaguars in the women’s final.
