Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has firmly announced he will not discuss his future until after next year’s World Cup, effectively halting speculation despite a lucrative summer offer from the Saudi Pro League’s Al-Hilal.
Fernandes is set to make his 300th appearance for United on Saturday against Brighton, highlighting his crucial role since his \textsterling 47\text{m} arrival in January 2020. The 31-year-old dismissed reports of any existing agreement to leave, stating, “I haven’t spoken with anyone.”
He confirmed he rejected a “huge offer” from Al-Hilal, an interest that would have generated a club-record sale in excess of \textsterling 100\text{m}. His decision was heavily influenced by his family and his own unfulfilled dream of winning trophies at Old Trafford.
“When I talk about not fulfilling my dreams at the club, it comes a lot from what [my wife] said to me,” he explained, stressing his desire for team success over individual accolades.
The captain also weighed in on recruitment, urging the club to sign “big characters” who can handle the intense pressure, stating, “Being a good player is sometimes not enough.” He praised new signings like Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo for their confidence and risk-taking.
Fernandes stressed his commitment to the team, even downplaying any rivalry with Kobbie Mainoo, seeing the younger player as someone who “makes me a better player.” For now, his focus remains squarely on delivering success for United.
