Uganda Cranes legend Denis Onyango added another chapter to his glittering career as Mamelodi Sundowns booked their place in the CAF Champions League group stages for the 11th straight season.
The veteran goalkeeper was in goal as the South African champions completed a 7–1 aggregate victory over Nigeria’s Remo Stars, following a 2–0 second-leg win at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Saturday.
The 39-year-old remained largely untroubled throughout the match, marshalling his defense with trademark calm and authority.
Onyango’s communication and composure ensured Sundowns never looked in danger, even as the visitors tried to find a way back into the tie.
His leadership from the back continues to be a defining factor in Sundowns’ continental consistency.
With Nuno Santos and Peter Shalulile on the scoresheet, Sundowns showed their usual attacking flair, but it was Onyango’s quiet dominance that reflected the team’s experience at this stage.
For a goalkeeper who’s already lifted the Champions League title and multiple league crowns, this latest qualification adds to an already remarkable resume that cements his legacy as one of Africa’s greatest.
