Lando Norris has seized the Formula 1 World Championship lead after delivering a dominant lights-to-flag victory at the Mexico City Grand Prix.
The win, Norris’s fourth since June, confirms a strong resurgence in form for the McLaren driver and places the team firmly at the top as the season heads into its final four races.
Norris, who took pole position with an exceptional lap, was in complete control of the race.
He now leads teammate Oscar Piastri, from whom he has clawed back 35 points in the last five races. Piastri had a difficult weekend, finishing fifth, with Team Principal Andrea Stella suggesting his struggles stem from adapting his driving style to the current low-grip track conditions, where Norris excels.
The victory delivered a major blow to Max Verstappen, who finished third behind Norris and Charles Leclerc.
While Verstappen reduced his deficit to the championship leader to 36 points, he admitted the pace of the McLaren had been a “chastening experience,” acknowledging his team is “not quick in every scenario.”
Norris, now leading the title fight, is focused on consistency: “Every weekend’s new, every weekend’s different, and still a long way to go.”
