NBL Finals: Kurt Carries City Oilers To 2-0 Lead Over Nam Blazers

City Oilers will be looking to tighten their grip on the 2025 National Basketball League Finals when Game Three tips off tonight, Tuesday, October 28, at the Lugogo Indoor Arena, live on NBS Sport and AfroMobile.

The ten-time champions hold a 2–0 advantage in the best-of-seven series after two intense encounters that have underlined the gulf in execution and composure between the two sides.

New recruits Kurt-Curry Wegscheider and Chad Bowie have been instrumental for the Oilers in the finals so far.

Bowie’s 27 points powered the opening win, while Wegscheider produced a stunning 37-point display in Game Two to lead the defending champions to a 90–83 victory.

The pair’s chemistry has been key, combining high-tempo scoring with disciplined defensive work, forcing the Blazers to chase games late in the fourth quarter.

Coach Andrew Tendo’s side has shown the calm of a team used to this stage, while the Blazers have struggled to convert opportunities and limit turnovers.

The Blazers enter tonight’s game knowing defeat would leave them on the brink of elimination, as no team has ever recovered from 3–0 down in the NBL Finals.

Their shooting has been a major concern. Across the first two games, they have failed to find consistency from beyond the arc, missing open looks and committing costly errors in transition.

Game Two summed up their struggles. Despite staying within five points after three quarters, they faded in the final period, losing it 26–14 and with it the contest.

Coach Stephen Nyeko will need his senior players to rise to the occasion.

Jimmy Enabu, Ivan Muhwezi, and James Okello, all with championship experience, have yet to make a major impact. Their leadership and shot-making will be vital if the Blazers are to revive their hopes.

The possible return of Tonny Drilleba, who missed Game Two through injury, would add depth and balance to the Blazers’ rotation.

His ability to stretch the floor and defend multiple positions could be crucial against an Oilers side that thrives on quick ball movement.

Oilers, meanwhile, will look to maintain their defensive intensity and exploit the transition game.

Tendo’s side has built its success on discipline and execution under pressure, attributes that have defined their decade-long dominance in Ugandan basketball.

The defending champions are two wins away from an eleventh consecutive title. For the Blazers, the mission is to win tonight or face the inevitability of another Oilers coronation.
