Southampton have sacked manager Will Still after just five months in charge following a dismal start to the Championship season.
The 33-year-old was dismissed after a 2-0 defeat to Preston North End on Saturday, a result that left the club in 21st place, only three points above the relegation zone.
Still, who was appointed in May, managed only two wins in 13 league games for the club relegated from the top flight last season.
In a statement, Technical Director Johannes Spors thanked Still and his departing coaching staff, Ruben Martinez, Clement Lemaitre, and Carl Martin, saying the process of improvement “has taken longer than any of us would have liked.”
Men’s under-21 head coach Tonda Eckert will take over as interim manager. Still’s final comments suggested he knew the challenge was substantial, stating there was no “instant fix” for the struggling side.
