Over 80 golfers from Entebbe Golf Club are heading to Kigali for the second cross-border leg of the I&M Bank Katogo Golf Series, set for this Saturday, November 8, at Kigali Golf Club.
The event, dubbed “The Virunga Challenge”, will bring together top amateurs from Uganda and Rwanda in a friendly yet competitive outing themed around the Virunga Massif, the mountain range that straddles both countries and is home to the famous silverback gorillas.
This marks the second international outing for the I&M Bank Katogo Golf Series following last year’s debut cross-border edition at Limuru Country Club in Kenya, which drew over 200 golfers.
Katogo Captain Elly Mukasa said the Kigali leg underscores the series’ steady rise as a regional golf showcase.
“Last year’s event in Limuru opened doors for us and positioned the I&M Bank Katogo Golf Series among the biggest in the region. We’re grateful to our partners, especially I&M Bank and Rwanda Air, for making this trip possible,” Mukasa said.
“We expect our team to perform well, but beyond competition, these events help strengthen regional ties and grow the golfing community.”
I&M Bank’s Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications, Annette Nakiyaga, highlighted the series as a reflection of the bank’s growing footprint in regional sports.
“The I&M Bank Katogo Golf Series is among the few tournaments in Uganda to go cross-border, which speaks volumes about its growth and the enthusiasm of the golfers. We look forward to an exciting Kigali leg that celebrates both sport and friendship,” Nakiyaga said.
The host club will announce competition formats before tee-off. The I&M Bank Katogo Golf Series is supported by Johnnie Walker, Victoria Motors, GA Insurance, Rwanda Air, Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa, Kampala Serena Hotel, Fenon Events, Goldman’s Luxury, NBS Sport, Case Hospital, and Time Cop Security.
