Nottingham Forest claimed a crucial 3-1 home victory over fellow strugglers Leeds United on Sunday, delivering manager Sean Dyche his first Premier League win for the club.
The result provides a major boost for the ‘Tricky Trees,’ moving them to within one point of escaping the relegation zone after a “wretched start” to the season. The win is Dyche’s second in five games since taking charge.
Leeds took a 13th-minute lead through Lukas Nmecha, but Ibrahim Sangare quickly equalized. The turning point came in the 59th minute when Dyche made a triple substitution, bringing on Omari Hutchinson, Taiwo Awoniyi, and Ryan Yates. Pundit Danny Murphy praised the move as “proactive.”
The changes immediately paid off. Captain Morgan Gibbs-White, who is rediscovering his form, headed in Hutchinson’s cross for the 2-1 lead. Gibbs-White scored his third goal in five games under Dyche, earning a standing ovation. Elliot Anderson secured the victory by slotting home a penalty for the 3-1 final score.
Dyche said the result was a “sign of the mentality changing,” noting that Forest is now on a run of one loss in five matches.
Meanwhile, Leeds boss Daniel Farke lamented a “concerning performance,” which leaves his side just one point above the bottom three.
