Elena Rybakina claimed the biggest payday in women’s tennis history at the WTA Finals, defeating Aryna Sabalenka and securing $3.98 million in prize money.
However, the 26-year-old Kazakh star refused to pose for the traditional winner’s photo with WTA Tour Chief Executive Portia Archer after the match.
The snub is linked to Rybakina’s ongoing tension with the WTA over her coach, Stefano Vukov.
Vukov was suspended earlier this year following an independent investigation into his conduct, though the ban was lifted in August, allowing him to attend the Finals.
Rybakina has consistently defended Vukov and previously criticized the WTA’s handling of the situation.
Despite the historic victory, Rybakina’s refusal highlights a deep-seated rift between the champion and the governing body.
