Uganda Lacrosse Targets LA2028 After Olympic Schedule Confirmed

Uganda Lacrosse Association president Twesiime Liberty says the confirmation of the LA2028 lacrosse schedule has reinforced the federation’s drive to secure a place at the Olympic Games.

LA28 organizers released the full competition program this week, with lacrosse set for July 24 to 29 at Exposition Park Stadium.

Twesiime said the association is committed to doing everything within its means to put Uganda in contention once the qualification pathway is announced.

He noted that the federation’s focus remains on broadening access to the sport through training programs, equipment distribution, and competitive opportunities at all levels.

The Uganda Lacrosse Association operates as the national governing body for the sport and is recognized by the National Olympic Committee, the National Council of Sports, and World Lacrosse.

Its work spans leagues, open tournaments, and capacity building to support the long term growth of the game.

Lacrosse was introduced in Uganda in 2009 and gained World Lacrosse membership in 2011. Uganda has since appeared in four global events, including the 2014 and 2023 World Championships in the United States, the 2018 edition in Israel, and the 2022 U20 competition in Ireland.

The country now holds the top ranking in Africa and sits twenty ninth worldwide, with participation estimated at more than ten thousand athletes across clubs, academies, schools, and universities.

Twesiime said the progress made over the past decade puts Uganda in a stronger position as Olympic qualification approaches, and the association plans to maintain its investment in development programs to match the standards required for LA2028.
