Men Conclude 2025 Uganda Cup Pool Phase, Set For Quarterfinals

Uganda Cup Round Five Results:
• Kitgum Lions 10-44 Impis
• Kyambogo 00-20 KCB KOBs
• Kakira Simbas 57-17 Fort Portal Tyrants
• Gulu City Falcons 57-10 Mbale Elephants
• Kigezi Silverbacks 00-39 Rams
• Plascon Mongers 15-41 Stanbic Black Pirates

With the conclusion of the men’s and women’s pool phase this Saturday, we have reached the halfway point of the 2025 Uganda Cup. The men played five rounds (four matches per team) in search of two teams per pool to progress to the knockout round.

Is Michael Wokorach the GOAT of Ugandan Rugby?

In Pool A, Stanbic Black Pirates had already progressed but Plascon Mongers and Lifeguard Rams were still contesting for the second spot. Mongers lost to Pirates, 41-15, on the final round while Rams beat Kigezi Silverbacks, 39-00.

Pool B was also a three-way contest between Hippos, Rhinos and Gulu City Falcons. But despite Gulu’s 57-10 victory over Mbale Elephants, it was not enough to go past Hippos and Rhinos.

For Pool C, it was a KCB KOBs and Toyota Buffaloes procession. The only contest was for who would come out on top of the pool and that was decided last week at the former Kampala Rugby Club.

Defending champions Heathens dominated Pool D, as expected. University boys Impis and VU Sharks battled for the second spot. Since Impis had won their meeting, all they had to do was beat Kitgum Lions in the last match; which they did by 44-10.

And thus, that confirmed the teams in the knockout round beginning with the quarterfinals.

Uganda Cup 2025 Fixtures:
• Friday, November 21: Pirates vs Impis
• Friday, November 21: KOBs vs Rhinos
• Sunday, November 23: Heathens vs Rams
• Sunday, November 23: Hippos vs Buffaloes

The quarterfinals will be played over two days – on Friday, November 21 and Sunday, November 23. This adjustment was made in the fixtures to leave Saturday open for a historic Triton Rugby Franchise tour of Uganda, where the Lady Rugby Cranes Veterans will play their first ever match against Triton Women.
