Uganda strengthened its run at the Islamic Solidarity Games on Wednesday night after three standout performances pushed the national tally to 12 medals by Thursday morning in Riyadh.
Halima Nakaayi opened the charge with silver in the women’s 800m, clocking 2:03.14 in a tight finish that lifted the Ugandan section of the crowd inside Prince Faisal Bin Fahad Stadium.
Shida Leni followed with bronze in the women’s 400m after posting 52.72, a result that confirms her status as one of the region’s most consistent quarter-milers.
Cherop Charity added another silver in the women’s 5000m with a time of 15:47.01, strengthening Uganda’s grip near the top of the athletics standings and keeping momentum high heading into the final days of competition.
In the men’s 400m, Adoli Haron put in a strong run to finish fourth with 46.66, just outside the medals but good enough to earn praise for a composed performance against a quality field.
Attention now shifts to the men’s 800m final on Thursday night at 8:45 pm.
Uganda will look to Tom Dradriga to extend the medal count after he conserved his effort in the 1500m earlier in the week to focus on his preferred event.
