Uganda closed its campaign at the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games with a strong 16th place finish out of 57 nations, capping off a week marked by consistency across four disciplines and a total of 13 medals.
The team collected 3 gold, 4 silver and 6 bronze, a return driven by standout performances in the pool and on the track.
Anna Gloria Muzito delivered two golds in the 50 and 100 freestyle, then added a silver in the 200 freestyle to underline her status as one of the country’s top performers.
Long distance runner Rebecca Chelangat secured the other gold with a composed win in the 10,000 women’s final.
Uganda’s silver medals came through Muzito, 10,000 men’s runner Samuel Simba Cherop, 800 specialist Halima Nakaayi and 5000 runner Charity Cherop.
The bronze tally stretched across boxing, swimming, table tennis and distance running. Boxer Alfred Ojok earned bronze in the light heavy category, while Samuel Simba Cherop added another in the 5000 men.
The women’s doubles team of Jemima Nakawala and Parvin Judith Nangonzi delivered the country’s first table tennis medal at the Games.
Sprinter Shida Leni secured bronze in the 400 women, with Abel Chebet adding a 10,000 men’s medal, and Jesse Ssuubi Ssengonzi taking bronze in the 100 butterfly.
The Games closed on Friday at Princess Nourah Bint University Sports Stadium, where Uganda’s delegation celebrated a performance that highlighted progress, competitive depth and growing confidence on the international stage.
