Uganda’s volleyball team says it is set for the start of the East African Inter Parliamentary Games, with the hosts targeting another overall title as the event opens on Thursday.
Kumi Municipality MP Silas Aogon said the squad has maintained strong preparation despite the pressure of political work ahead of next month’s elections.
“The members are in high spirits, but the only challenge that we have seen here is balancing between the preparations for the elections, which are coming on the 15th of January, and then preparations for the games,” he said.
Aogon added that the team has trained consistently and is confident in its chances. “We started training early enough and we shall be able to make the points but also win the trophy,” he said.
The games will be launched at Kololo Independence Grounds, with basketball, netball, and volleyball scheduled for Lugogo Arena. Uganda will also open its football campaign against Burundi at Phillip Omondi Stadium.
