Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos believes South Africa is perfectly positioned for success at the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, claiming his side is “far ahead” of their rivals.
Speaking ahead of the tournament’s kickoff next week, Broos highlighted South Africa’s intensive preparation schedule as a major advantage over the continent’s heavyweights.
“We are far ahead in terms of our preparations,” Broos said. “If you look at teams like Cameroon, Senegal, and Morocco, they only started their preparations yesterday. We can’t complain.”
Broos is confident that the squad’s experience will carry them through, even though he expects opponents to play with more tactical caution than in previous years.
Despite being without three key players, Broos refused to let injuries dampen expectations, stating, “I don’t take that as an excuse for why we shouldn’t perform—certainly not.”
The team is set to finalize training this weekend before heading to Morocco to improve on their previous third-place finish.
South Africa faces a tough challenge in Group B, opening their campaign against Angola on December 22.
