Lugazi Football Club have appointed Simon Peter Mugerwa as their new head coach on a one year contract, replacing Francis Mugerwa and Steven Bogere. The club confirmed the decision on Christmas Day through their official social media platforms.
“We are pleased to announce the appointment of Simon Peter Mugerwa as the head coach of our senior men’s team with immediate effect. Welcome to the LEADERS, Simon Peter Mugerwa, and Robert Ssekweyama,” the club statement reads.
Mugerwa joins Lugazi after a short spell out of work, having parted ways with Mbarara City Football Club last month. His most recent competitive engagement came in the Buganda Masaza Cup, where his side exited at the semi final stage after losing to Buweekula, before finishing the tournament with a one nil classification win over Bugerere.
The CAF A licensed coach will be assisted by veteran tactician Robert Ssekweyama, who comes in as his immediate deputy as Lugazi look to stabilise their technical bench and improve results.
Mugerwa brings vast experience from both league and traditional football. He has previously coached Police FC, SC Villa, Soltilo Bright Stars, Proline and Fire Masters, as well as Ssingo, Busiro, Bulemeezi and Kyagwe in the Buganda Masaza Cup.
His coaching journey began in school football, where he worked with Real College Busunju, Kakungulu Memorial School, Masaka Secondary School and Buddo Secondary School before transitioning fully into top level club and Masaza football.
Lugazi have struggled for consistency this season, managing two wins, three draws and four defeats from nine matches. The run has left them thirteenth on the sixteen team league table with nine points, a situation Mugerwa is expected to address as he settles into his new role.
