Abraham Luzzi has pledged to back Ugandan boxing through private investment if elected Kampala Central Member of Parliament, saying the sport cannot rely on government funding alone.
Speaking in a one on one interview on NBS Sport days before the elections, Luzzi positioned boxing as both a personal passion and a proven medal winning discipline that deserves more structured support.
Luzzi said his connection with boxers has been direct and deliberate, even as he acknowledged football’s role in shaping his own education. “Boxers are the ones to look for me,” Luzzi said. “The footballers reached out to me, yet it was football that educated me.”
He also addressed his opponent and friend, Uganda Boxing Federation president Moses Muhangi, stressing cooperation over political rivalry. “I see Muhangi mostly in sports, especially boxing, and he is my friend. We are contesting for the same position, and if he goes through, I have no problem. If I go through, I will support his programs.”
Luzzi described boxing as one of Uganda’s most reliable sources of international medals and outlined plans to mobilise investors, identify talent, and improve infrastructure. “Boxing has brought Uganda medals. If I go through, I will bring investors, scout boxers, and build gyms. Government doesn’t always have money we should help it.”
He added that his commitment would include personal financial input and direct welfare support for athletes. “I will invest in boxing, get equipment and food. I love sports it’s a passion. Boxers should look for me; I want nothing from them, and I will open up.”
