Novak Djokovic secured his 100th victory at the Australian Open with a clinical 6-3 6-2 6-2 win over Spain’s Pedro Martinez.
The 38-year-old world number four delivered a serving exhibition, losing only five points on serve all night and firing 14 aces.
“It’s a nice feeling to be a centurion,” said Djokovic, who is chasing a record 25th Grand Slam title. He has now reached 100 wins at three of the four majors.
Meanwhile, Alex de Minaur, the Australian sixth seed dominated Mackenzie McDonald 6-2 6-2 6-2, declaring he is “playing to win” the title.
Also, Andrey Rublev (13), Casper Ruud (12), and Tommy Paul (19) all secured straight-set victories. 17th seed Jiri Lehecka was stunned by French qualifier Arthur Gea, who now faces 40-year-old Stan Wawrinka.
Djokovic faces Italian qualifier Francesco Maestrelli in the second round.
