Kigezi HomeBoyz Football Club is building a compelling football story in Uganda, with the Kabale-based side firmly in the race for promotion to the Uganda Premier League.
Founded in 2011, the club has grown into a symbol of football development and regional pride in Kigezi. It remains the only team from the region competing in one of the country’s top two leagues, the FUFA Big League.
Based at Kigezi HomeBoyz Al-Madinah Stadium in Kabale Tourism City, the club has positioned itself as more than just a football team. A fully operational soccer academy continues to nurture young talent while strengthening football structures in the region, attracting support locally, nationally, and from the Ugandan diaspora.
This season, Kigezi HomeBoyz have made a strong impression in the FUFA Big League, sitting second on the 16-team table with 25 points from 15 matches, four points behind leaders Blacks Power. With the second round approaching, optimism is growing that top-flight football could soon return to Kabale.

Club Chief Executive Officer Brian Akankwasa says the team remains focused on its long-term ambition of reaching the Uganda Premier League.
“Our vision has always been clear to promote talent and bring top-tier football back to the Kigezi region,” Akankwasa said. “We have invested in structures, player development and team stability. Sitting second at this stage shows the project is moving in the right direction, and we believe we have what it takes to fight for promotion.”

Midfielder Enock Tumwesigye has been a key figure this season, emerging as one of the team’s standout performers. He has contributed five goals and six assists, starting 14 of the 15 first-round matches and playing a crucial role in the team’s attacking play.
Ahead of the second round, the club has strengthened its squad with several signings to boost depth and experience. The new arrivals include Edrine Mukisa Opaala from Busoga United, Eric Junior Akol from Onduparaka, Dominic Abonga from South Sudan’s Koryom FC, Julius Barasa on loan from BUL FC, and Mike Walaga from Mbarara City FC.

Head coach Saddick Ssempingi believes the additions will help sustain momentum in the promotion push.
“We have worked hard to build a disciplined and competitive squad,” Ssempingi said. “The players understand the responsibility they carry for the region, and we are preparing them mentally and tactically to deliver beyond expectations in the second round.”
With strong leadership, growing fan support, and a clear development vision, Kigezi HomeBoyz FC continues to inspire optimism across the region as it pushes to bring top-flight football back to Kigezi for the first time in over two decades.
