Real Madrid and UEFA have reached an “agreement of principles” to end their long-standing legal dispute over the failed European Super League (ESL).
The deal, which includes the European Football Clubs (EFC) body, aims to resolve litigation following years of tension.
It comes just a week after Barcelona withdrew from the project, leaving Real Madrid as the sole remaining club.
Real had recently sought “substantial damages” from UEFA after courts ruled that blocking the breakaway league was anti-competitive.
However, a joint statement on Wednesday confirmed the parties are now prioritizing “the wellbeing of European club football,” focusing on sporting merit and financial sustainability.
The agreement effectively signals the end of the 2021 breakaway attempt, as UEFA moves to restore unity among Europe’s elite clubs.
