Girona pulled off a dramatic 2-1 upset over Barcelona at the Estadi Montilivi, dealing a major blow to Hansi Flick’s title ambitions.
The defeat leaves Barcelona two points behind leaders Real Madrid.
After a scoreless first half—highlighted by Lamine Yamal crashing a penalty off the post—Pau Cubarsí headed Barca in front in the 59th minute. However, the lead lasted just two minutes before Thomas Lemar equalized for the hosts.
The winner arrived in the 86th minute through substitute Fran Beltrán. Despite Barca’s protests of a foul in the build-up, VAR allowed the goal to stand. Girona’s Joel Roca was sent off in stoppage time for a reckless challenge on Yamal, but the 10-man hosts held on for the win.
The result ends Barcelona’s three-game league winning streak and moves Girona five points clear of the relegation zone.
