President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has committed UGX 3 billion to support the 2026 Cancer Run drive, with the funds earmarked for the completion of the Cancer Treatment Centre at Nsambya Hospital.
The contribution was announced by the Speaker of the 11th Parliament, Anita Annet Among, during the launch of the 15th edition of the Cancer Run scheduled for 30 August 2026 under the theme “Gwanga Mujje.”
According to the Speaker, the President made the pledge during a meeting held prior to the launch.
“Before I came here for the launch of the 15th edition of the Cancer Run, I had a meeting with the President of the Republic of Uganda and he donated three billion shillings towards the completion of the Cancer Treatment Centre as he continues to protect the gains,” Says Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among.
Now in its 15th year, the Cancer Run has grown into one of Uganda’s most visible citizen led health campaigns, bringing together government, corporate entities, individuals and the diaspora in the fight against cancer.
Organisers are targeting to raise UGX 5 billion from this year’s edition, with an estimated 100,000 participants expected at Kololo Independence Grounds. The goal is to secure the remaining funds needed to complete the Cancer Treatment Centre at Nsambya Hospital.
Funds will be raised through runner registrations and contributions from well wishers supporting expanded access to cancer treatment and care across the country.
