Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe has called on Anthony Gordon to ignore mounting transfer speculation linking him with a move to Arsenal.
Despite Gordon recently dismissing the rumors as “rubbish,” the England international—who has netted 14 goals this season—remains the subject of intense media interest.
Howe, speaking ahead of a crucial run of fixtures, insisted his star forward cannot afford any distractions.
“He’s not got time to look left or right,” Howe said. “He’s got to be fully focused on straight ahead and the next game.”
The Magpies are keen to avoid a repeat of last summer’s saga, which saw Alexander Isak force a British-record £125m move to Liverpool.
While players like Sandro Tonali and Tino Livramento have also been linked with exits, Howe remains confident his squad is “robust enough” to block out the noise.
“It’s irrelevant really,” Howe added. “It’s how the players react to that. If they absorb it and it affects them, then that’s a negative.”
