Dominic Otucet has declared his intention to seek another term as president of Uganda Athletics after the federation passed a UGX 10 billion budget for the coming year.
Otucet made the announcement during the federation’s Annual General Meeting held at Mandela National Stadium on February 28, 2026. He has led the federation since 2010, having first joined the executive in 1999 as Treasurer before rising to Vice President in 2002.
“I still have unfinished projects that I believe are important for the growth of athletics in Uganda so I am requesting members to entrust me with another term to complete this work”, Says Otucet.
During his tenure, Uganda has produced a string of global champions, including Stephen Kiprotich, Moses Kipsiro, Joshua Cheptegei, Jacob Kiplimo and Peruth Chemutai, marking what many within the federation describe as a golden era for the sport.
At the same meeting, members approved a UGX 10 billion budget to support operations and development programmes. Officials noted that the previous allocation of UGX 3 billion had become insufficient to manage the expanding athletics calendar, particularly as Uganda’s profile on the global stage continues to grow.
Elections for the federation’s leadership are scheduled for March 28, 2026, with the venue to be communicated in due course.
