Striker Derrick Kakooza has signed a two year contract with URA FC, the club has confirmed, as they look to reinforce their squad for the second round of the season.
Kakooza, who last featured for KF Terbuni Pukë in Albania’s third tier, had already hinted at a return to Ugandan football after being included in the URA squad that competed in the Mapinduzi Cup in Zanzibar earlier this year.
He becomes the fourth addition for the Tax Collectors during this window, following the arrivals of Moses Waiswa, Disan Galiwango and Rahmat Ssenfuka.
Kakooza first gained continental recognition in 2021 when he finished as top scorer at the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Mauritania with five goals. His performances at youth level earned him moves abroad, where he turned out for Valmiera FC, KuPS and ENPPI SC, before joining Ethiopia Coffee in September 2023.
URA, coached by Hussein Mbalangu, are seeking a turnaround after a difficult first round. The club sits 13th on the table with 15 points from 17 matches.
They return to action on Wednesday, March 4, with a home fixture against Mbarara City FC at Nakivubo, where Kakooza could be in line to make his competitive debut.
