Ugandan long distance runner Jacob Kiplimo has arrived in the Portuguese capital ahead of the Lisbon Half Marathon scheduled for March 8 in Lisbon, Portugal.
Kiplimo touched down on March 5 as he begins final preparations for the race where he will headline a field expected to include several of the world’s leading road runners.
The Ugandan star is using the Lisbon event as part of his competitive build up toward the London Marathon later this year.
The reigning distance running standout arrives with motivation after World Athletics declined to ratify his 56:42 mark set at the Barcelona Half Marathon last year. Despite that setback, Kiplimo remains confident about delivering another strong performance and is targeting a fast time in Lisbon.
The race provides a valuable test as he continues preparations for London, one of the most prestigious races on the global road running calendar. A solid run in Lisbon would help confirm his readiness ahead of the marathon challenge that awaits in the British capital.
The timing of the event also coincides with International Women’s Day weekend, with Kiplimo once again representing Uganda on the international athletics stage.
His participation is expected to attract strong interest from fans and observers as the 23 year old continues building momentum toward the season’s major races.
