Omar Ahmed Hussein, widely known as Mandela, has been officially declared president of SC Villa for another five year term after emerging as the only validly nominated candidate.
The club’s Electoral Commission confirmed the decision on Tuesday evening following the conclusion of the nomination and vetting process.
Brian Kajubi, chairperson of the Electoral Committee, said Mandela fulfilled all requirements before the final declaration was made.
“With only Mr. Omar Ahmed Hussein as the validly nominated and approved candidate, the commission hereby declares him duly elected for a term of five years,” Kajubi stated, in a statement released by the club on Tuesday evening.
According to the official declaration issued by the commission, Mandela had earlier been vetted by the Electoral Commission and subsequently approved by the club’s Board of Trustees before his candidature was confirmed.
The statement added, “The S.C Villa Electoral Commission hereby informs the club membership that Mr. Omar Ahmed Hussein was duly vetted by the commission and approved by the club’s Board of Trustees as the sole candidate for the position of club president.”
Mandela first assumed leadership of the club in November 2021 and has since overseen a rebuilding phase aimed at restoring stability and competitiveness at the 17 time league champions.
His administration has focused on strengthening the club’s structures, improving player welfare, and assembling a competitive squad capable of challenging for domestic honours and continental football.
Founded in 1975, SC Villa is the most decorated football club in Uganda with 17 league titles, the most recent being won in the 2023/24 season, nine Uganda Cups and three CECAFA Club Championships.
