Liverpool have condemned racist abuse aimed at defender Ibrahima Konate following their 4-0 Champions League win over Galatasaray.
Konate was targeted online after a challenge with striker Victor Osimhen, who later suffered a fractured forearm.
The club said the abuse was “appalling and disgusting,” adding: “Racism has no place in football, no place in society.”
Liverpool pledged full support to Konate and urged social media companies to act. The Premier League also condemned the abuse, warning offenders face bans and prosecution.
Despite the controversy, Liverpool advanced to the quarter-finals, where they will face Paris Saint-Germain.
