A heavy morning downpour did little to dampen spirits as more than 800 runners converged on the Legends Grounds in Lugogo for the fourth edition of the Virtuous Woman RunFest Marathon.
The charity-driven event, held on Saturday, drew participants from across Kampala, united by a common goal: raising funds to construct a youth skilling centre in Katosi, Mukono District.
Organised under the leadership of Doreen Kimuri, the RunFest is part of a broader campaign to mobilise 100 million shillings for the project.
The proposed centre will equip young people with practical vocational skills, offering pathways to employment and improved livelihoods in a region where youth unemployment remains a pressing challenge.
Despite the rain, the turnout was strong and enthusiastic. Kimuri noted that the resilience of the runners reflected the growing public commitment to community-driven initiatives.
Funds raised from the marathon are expected to play a pivotal role in kick-starting construction, with organisers optimistic that work on the facility will begin soon.
Now in its fourth year, the Virtuous Woman RunFest has steadily grown in both participation and impact, cementing its reputation as one of Kampala’s notable charity sporting events.
