Naomi Osaka is weighing her clay court schedule after a 7‑5, 6‑4 loss to Australia’s Talia Gibson on Saturday.
The former world No. 1, who returned in 2024 following the birth of her daughter, admitted she struggles to balance motherhood with her ambitions on tour.
“I want to win titles and be the best player I can, but if I have to sacrifice time with my daughter, I’d rather not,” Osaka said.
The four‑time Grand Slam champion will skip Charleston but hopes to play Madrid, Rome, and the French Open. Gibson, 21, moves on to face Iva Jovic in the next round.
