St Lawrence University took a narrow first-leg advantage in the University Football League quarter-finals after beating Ndejje University 2-1 at Kavule Arena on Thursday.
The home side made a fast start and went ahead in the 22nd minute through Ziraba Ronnie. Their lead lasted just a minute, with Musinguzi Davis responding immediately for Ndejje to level the match in the 23rd minute.
Sharafah Mukiibi then proved decisive in the second half, scoring in the 62nd minute to restore St Lawrence’s lead and seal the win ahead of the return leg.
The result mirrors last season’s quarter-final meeting between the two sides, where St Lawrence also won the first leg 2-1 before securing progression with a draw away from home on their way to the 2025 semi-finals.
In other first-leg results, Bugema University drew 1-1 with Kampala University, while Uganda Martyrs University registered a win over Muteesa I Royal University.
The quarter-final action continues on Friday, with 2024 champions Nkumba University set to face Kumi University in Kumi.
