Confederation of African Football (CAF) general secretary Veron Mosengo-Omba has resigned, deepening the crisis surrounding the Africa Cup of Nations.
The 66-year-old announced his retirement on Sunday, but his exit follows CAF’s controversial decision to strip Senegal of the 2025 Afcon title and postpone the women’s tournament.
Mosengo-Omba, who served since 2021, faced criticism for staying beyond CAF’s retirement age and accusations of creating a toxic workplace, though he was cleared of wrongdoing.
CAF competitions director Samson Adamu will serve as acting general secretary while the Court of Arbitration for Sport reviews Senegal’s appeal against losing the Afcon crown to Morocco.
