The Mandela National Stadium was a hive of energy as more than 600 athletes converged for the second national trial, each determined to clock impressive times and secure a coveted spot on Uganda’s team for upcoming international competitions.
Unlike previous trials where Kenyan sprinter Juma Tyson Omondi stole the show in the 100 meters, this edition saw the spotlight shift to homegrown talent.
Aboda Emmanuel, representing Uganda Prisons Athletics Club, emerged as a standout performer, powering through Heat 9 of the 100 meters and pushing hard for qualification times that could cement his place on the national squad.
The trials showcased Uganda’s depth across multiple disciplines, with athletes competing in track and field events ranging from the 400 meters, 800 meters, and 1500 meters to the grueling 5000 meters.
Both men and women athletes turned up in force, underscoring the growing competitiveness and ambition within Uganda’s athletics scene.
Officials hailed the turnout as a strong signal of the country’s readiness to challenge on the continental and global stage.
