Following the one week’s break for the Enterprise Cup and international tours, local rugby clubs returned to action in the top tier men’s premiership and women’s premier league.
This was in Matchday 7 on Saturday, March 28 across multiple venues in Kampala, Entebbe and Jinja.
Men’s Rugby Premiership:
All focus on the matchday was at Lugogo for the mammoth Lions Cup clash between KCB KOBs and Platinum Credit Heathens in which KOBs battered Heathens by 37-15.

Across the road at Kyadondo, Toyota Buffaloes put Warriors to the sword, winning by 50-08. Impis returned to winning ways with a 23-08 victory over Rhinos at The Graveyard Makerere while Stanbic Black Pirates beat Victoria Sharks by 29-19 at Kyambogo.
In Entebbe, Mongers continued their fairytale coachless run with a 45-17 whooping of Hippos. Walukuba Barbarians and Kakira Simbas players exchanged blows after the fulltime whistle at Kakira following a hotly contested match which ended 24-18 in favour of the visitors.
• Buffaloes 50-08 Warriors
• Mongers 45-17 Hippos
• Pirates 29-19 VU Sharks
• Impis 23-08 Rhinos
• Walukuba 24-18 Kakira
• KOBs 37-15 Heathens
Buffaloes are the table leaders, ahead of Pirates— by just a bonus point— and KOBs. Mongers follows as Heathens drops out of the top four. Warriors are still holding the wooden spoon below Kakira, Rhinos and Hippos in that order.
Women’s Rugby Premier League:
The second round of the 2026 Uganda Rugby Women’s Rugby Premier League began in high gear with two major upsets.
First, Avengers outmuscled Black Pearls at Kings Park by 32-27 to subject the defending champions to their third loss of the season.
More dramatically, Panthers stunned Nile Rapids at Lugogo with a nervy 27-26 victory secured with the last kick of the match. Until that point, Panthers had been winless and Nile Rapids still unbeaten.
The other match on the fixture sheet saw She Wolves bag an inspiring 18-10 away victory over Ewes at The Graveyard Makerere.
• Panthers 27-26 Nile Rapids
• She Wolves 18-10 Ewes
• Avengers 32-27 Black Pearls
Thunderbirds had a bye this week but maintained their top spot on the table, ahead of Avengers, Nile Rapids, Black Pearls, She Wolves, Ewes and Panthers in that order.

Central Region Schools League Finals:
The 2026 Central Region Schools League finals were played this Sunday, March 29, at the Mutesa II Stadium Wankulukuku.
Namilyango College were in all three U15, U17 and U20 finals where they faced St Mary’s College Kisubi (U15 & U17) and Makerere College School (U20).
• U15: Namilyango 22-05 SMACK
• U17: SMACK 27-21 Namilyango
• U20: Makerere College 30-10 Namilyango

All three available trophies went to the three schools but it is the seniors title which made the biggest headlines.
Makerere College, led by captain Abraham Mujuni, won their first ever schools league title since the tournament started in 1996.
Competitive club rugby will take another break for the Easter festivities next weekend and the Enterprise Cup the weekend after that.
