FIFA president Gianni Infantino has confirmed that Iran will compete in the World Cup and play its scheduled matches in United States venues despite ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
“Iran will be at the World Cup… We’re delighted because they’re a very strong team,” Infantino told AFP during Iran’s friendly against Costa Rica in Turkey.
The assurance comes amid speculation over whether geopolitical tensions could affect Iran’s participation in the tournament.
The World Cup build-up has already seen dramatic developments elsewhere with Ghana dismissing coach Otto Addo just ten weeks before the tournament.
