The University Football League quarterfinals delivered high drama in the Masaka Road Derby, as Muteesa I Royal University stunned defending champions Uganda Martyrs University with a 1–0 victory in the return leg.
The decisive moment came in the 48th minute when Lutwama Ali calmly converted a penalty, securing Muteesa’s place in the semifinals for the first time in the competition’s history.
The tie ended 2–2 on aggregate, but Muteesa advanced on the away goals rule, leaving the reigning champions eliminated.
With this triumph, Muteesa I Royal University joins Kampala University as the second team to book a spot in the semifinals, marking a milestone achievement for the Masaka-based side.
Action continues tomorrow as last year’s runners-up, St. Lawrence University, travel to Ndejje University carrying a slender 2–1 advantage from the first leg.
