Kitara advanced to the semi-finals of the Stanbic Uganda Cup with a 3-0 win over Express at Royals Park in Butema on Sunday, joining Vipers and URA in the last four.
George Senkaaba scored twice as the hosts controlled the tie, while substitute Alex Wasswa added a late third to seal progression.
Kitara set the tone early, pressing high and creating chances, with Kabon Living firing wide in the opening stages. The breakthrough came in the 26th minute when Senkaaba reacted quickest after Express goalkeeper Kassim Hafizi failed to deal with Gaddafi Wahab’s free kick, converting from close range.
Senkaaba doubled the lead nine minutes into the second half. Captain Jasper Aheebwa initiated the move, finding Jimmy Kalema, who released Senkaaba. The forward controlled with his chest before finishing into the top corner to take his tally in this season’s competition to four goals.
Express threatened an immediate response, but goalkeeper Meddie Kibirige denied Kenneth Kimera in a one-on-one after a through ball from Marvin Nyanzi.
Wasswa put the result beyond doubt late on, finishing from close range after Benjamin Nyakoojo flicked on a corner delivered by Frank Zaga Tumwesigye.
Express struggled to break through a well-organised Kitara defence. Mikidadi Ssenyonga fired over, while Kimera saw another effort blocked, with the centre-back pairing of Samuel Kato and Nyakoojo maintaining Kitara’s unbeaten defensive record in the competition.
Kitara will learn their semi-final opponents in the upcoming draw. Attention now turns to the Uganda Premier League, where they face Vipers SC on Friday in Kitende.
