The Uganda U20 Women’s National Team have started preparations for their final round tie in the African qualifiers for the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup, entering residential camp and holding their first training session on Sunday at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru.
The side is gearing up for a decisive two-legged clash against Ghana, with the first leg scheduled between May 1 and 3 and the return leg set for May 9. The winner on aggregate will secure qualification to the 2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Poland.
The opening session focused on tactical organisation and physical conditioning, as the technical team began refining combinations within the squad ahead of the high-stakes fixture. With limited time before the first leg, the emphasis has quickly shifted to cohesion and match readiness.
Head coach Sheryl Ulanda Botes said she had been encouraged by the early signs in camp, particularly the mindset of the players as preparations got underway.
“We commenced our first preparations this morning, and I have already seen a positive mentality from the players. They are confident,” she said.
“We have only a few sessions to prepare, so we are using this time to find the right combinations, especially as we aim to get a good result away against Ghana.”
Botes also highlighted the inclusion of emerging players, noting that the integration of school-based talent is part of the broader approach to strengthening competition within the squad.
“We have also included some young players from schools. We want to integrate them into the team because they bring healthy competition in camp,” she added.
