FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) have asked the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) to explain the circumstances surrounding the provisional suspension of three senior officials, in a move that has placed the federation’s leadership under fresh scrutiny.
In a formal communication, FIFA confirmed it had been informed that FKF’s National Executive Committee (NEC) passed a resolution on or around April 24, 2026, ordering FKF president Hussein Rashid Mohammed, acting secretary general Dennis Gicheru and NEC member Abdullahi Yusuf Ibrahim to step aside.
The decision has raised concerns over governance and whether proper procedures were followed in line with FKF statutes.
FIFA, working together with CAF, is now seeking detailed clarification on how the resolution was reached during the NEC meeting.
Among the documents and information requested are proof of how the meeting was convened, the official agenda, evidence that quorum was met, voting outcomes and any documentation used to support the decision.
The world governing body has also asked FKF to confirm whether the three affected officials were given a fair hearing before the resolution was passed.
In addition, FIFA has requested all reports, materials and any further evidence used to justify the move.
FIFA and CAF are jointly reviewing whether the process complied with FKF’s constitution and governance rules, with the outcome likely to have major implications for the federation’s leadership.
FKF has been given until May 1, 2026, to submit all the requested information.
The latest development adds to the growing uncertainty at the Kenyan football governing body as it awaits the findings of FIFA and CAF’s assessment.
