Midfielder Nalukwago Shamim says she is honoured to have received her first call-up to the Uganda U-20 Women’s National Team as the Queen Cranes intensify preparations for their crucial FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifying tie against Ghana.
The Standard Secondary School, Zzana player is part of the squad currently in residential camp at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru ahead of the final round of the African qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland.
Uganda are preparing for a decisive two-legged clash against Ghana, with the aggregate winner booking a place at the global tournament.
Nalukwago said the experience in camp has already helped her grow as a player and praised the environment within the squad.
“I am honoured to be part of this team for the first time. The experience has been very positive. I have met very talented, disciplined and focused players who are helping me adapt quickly and improve every day,” Nalukwago said.
“I am learning a lot from both the coaches and my teammates, and the competition within the group is pushing everyone to raise their level.
“The training sessions have been intense but very productive and we are fully committed to the team objectives. As players, we understand the importance of the upcoming matches against Ghana and we are preparing ourselves mentally and physically to give our very best in both legs as we push for World Cup qualification.”
The Queen Cranes have been undergoing high-intensity tactical, technical and physical training sessions as preparations gather pace.
The first leg will be played on May 3 at the Accra Sports Stadium in Ghana before the return leg in Kampala on May 9.
Uganda will be hoping to complete the job over the two matches and secure a historic place at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland.
