Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has condemned the club’s campaign as “unacceptable” after their 3-2 defeat to Manchester United — the team’s 18th loss in all competitions.
The Dutch defender admitted “a lot of work” is needed to avoid a repeat of their faltering title defence, with Liverpool still requiring up to four points from their final three games to secure Champions League qualification.
Van Dijk, 34, stressed the importance of consistency and defended the squad’s training schedule, insisting players are “adults” who balance rest and preparation.
“We want to be successful. Next season, this cannot be repeated. It is unacceptable,” he said.
