Uganda will channel funds from its supplementary budget allocation for the Africa Cup of Nations 2027 into urgent infrastructure, stadium upgrades and host city readiness projects as government moves to address immediate gaps before the close of the financial year.
Parliament approved the Shs 29.57 billion allocation on May 5, with State Minister for General Duties Henry Musasizi stressing that the planned works could not be pushed into the next budget cycle.
“Given the critical nature of these expenditure requirements, I pray that you consider and pass this supplementary to enable government meet these requirements as we come to close this financial year and all of them cannot wait for next financial year,” Musasizi added.
A significant portion of the funds will go towards priority road works in Kira Municipal Council to improve access and ease movement linked to tournament operations.
Authorities have identified road infrastructure as a key requirement in meeting hosting standards and managing expected traffic during the competition.
Upgrades at Kadiba Football Stadium are also planned, with improvements aimed at raising the facility closer to benchmarks set by the Confederation of African Football for training grounds.
The supplementary funding will further support branding of host cities and content production, part of a wider push to position Uganda within the Pamoja AFCON 2027 framework and enhance visibility ahead of the tournament.
Urban readiness measures form another key component, with road safety and sanitation interventions scheduled for Hoima City and Masindi Municipality.
These are expected to improve public safety and environmental standards in areas projected to host teams and fans.
The supplementary allocation targets short-term, high-priority needs, distinct from the broader AFCON financing expected in the main 2026/27 budget to be presented in June.
For now, the focus remains on delivering immediate works to keep Uganda on track in its preparations for the continental tournament.
