Wayne Rooney believes Mohamed Salah should not play in Liverpool’s final game against Brentford, accusing the forward of being “selfish” after publicly criticising manager Arne Slot.
Salah, 33, is leaving Anfield after nine years, but his call for a return to “heavy metal football” was seen as a dig at Slot.

Rooney said: “He’s basically saying he wants Klopp football. I don’t think Salah can cope with that tempo anymore. If I was Slot, I’d leave him out.”
The Egyptian has scored 12 goals in 40 games this season, far below last year’s title-winning tally of 29.
Rooney added: “He’s disrespected his manager twice. Fans will back him, but he knows exactly what he’s doing. It’s a shame one of the Premier League’s icons may leave like this.”
