Parliament Golf Team Launches Corporate Series with Equity Bank Challenge

The Parliament of Uganda golf team has launched a new series of corporate golf engagements after taking on Equity Bank Uganda in a friendly tournament at Entebbe Club.

Led by team captain and Sheema Municipality MP Dicksons Kateshumbwa, Parliament fielded a squad of 15 golfers for the Stableford-format contest. The team featured a mix of experienced players and newcomers, with Hon. Sarah Kityo and Hon. Suzan Kawuki making appearances for the parliamentary side, while Hon. Juliet Kinyamatama made her golfing debut at Entebbe Club. Veteran parliament golfers, including Hon. Jim Muhwezi, were also part of the team.

Equity Bank Uganda was represented by Managing Director Gift Shoko and Executive Director Claver Serumaga as the two sides battled for honours on the course.

At the end of the day, Equity Bank emerged victorious with a combined score of 257 points.

Speaking to NBS Sport after the event, Serumaga credited the victory to the bank’s regular involvement in the game and its continued support for golf development in Uganda.

He thanked Parliament for providing strong competition and said the bank’s success was a result of consistent practice and participation in the sport. He also highlighted Equity Bank’s support for tournaments such as the Namulonge Open and the Lira Ladies Open as part of its commitment to growing golf in the country.

Despite the defeat, Kateshumbwa expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance and revealed that Parliament is actively recruiting new members to strengthen the squad.

He said several new golfers are currently undergoing training and will be unveiled in due course. Kateshumbwa added that the corporate golf initiative provides an important platform for Parliament to connect with the business community outside the formal working environment.

The legislator described the tournament as the beginning of a broader series of engagements between Parliament and corporate organisations, revealing that the next challenge is expected to be against MTN Uganda.

Kateshumbwa also pledged Parliament’s support for the development of golf in Uganda, noting that the sport has significant potential to generate revenue through golf tourism and attract more visitors to the country.

Among the individual performers recognised during the tournament were Hon. Sylvia Nayebare, who won the Ladies Group B category, and Justine Kalembe, who claimed the Longest Drive award in the ladies’ competition.

The event marked a fresh chapter in Parliament’s sporting activities, with organisers hoping the corporate golf series will strengthen relationships between lawmakers and the private sector while promoting the growth of golf across Uganda.
