The highly anticipated NCBA Golf Series returns to Uganda this weekend, promising a premier sporting experience alongside impactful corporate social responsibility. The tournament tees off on Saturday, 13 June, bringing together elite amateur golfers, stakeholders, and community partners.
Speaking ahead of the launch, Julius Konyani, Executive Director of NCBA Bank, praised the rapid evolution of the series, recalling its humble beginnings in 2022.
“What a journey it has been, from a boardroom idea to East Africa’s premier golf tournament,” Konyani remarked.
He highlighted the growth in scale, structure, and competitive quality, commending Uganda’s strong performance in last year’s edition and noting how local golfers have raised the regional standard.
This year’s Ugandan fixtures will be staged at two prestigious venues: Uganda Golf Club (Kitante) and Entebbe Golf Club. Top performers from these qualifiers will secure places in the Grand Finale, scheduled for 28 November in Kenya.
Beyond the fairways, NCBA Bank has anchored the series on community development. The bank announced a strategic partnership with Pendeza Uganda, a non-profit focused on economic empowerment and community transformation.
According to Konyani, the collaboration is designed to align sport with meaningful societal support, ensuring vulnerable communities benefit from the initiative. Welcoming the partnership, Gloria Mbaguta expressed gratitude to NCBA Bank and its co-sponsors, emphasizing that the alliance expands their capacity to reach vulnerable groups.
Turning to the competition, Mbaguta assured players and fans that the courses have been meticulously prepared.
“The course will be top-notch come Saturday,” she promised.
The briefing concluded with a strong sense of camaraderie. Director Emmanuel Wamimbi extended thanks to the NCBA Board and sponsors for their commitment to grassroots and amateur golf across East Africa. He then invited dignitaries, board members, and stakeholders to the iconic 18th hole for a ceremonial group photograph, officially commemorating the launch.
